A little History

The Wedding Expo which is owned by Amanda Cunningham was started in May 2002 with the very first show at the Sandton Convention Centre attracting 77 exhibitors and 3200 visitors. The event moved to The Dome in Northgate Johannesburg in 2004 and in 2005 the show saw the introduction of a second The Wedding Expo in the second half of the year.

The Wedding Expo now attracts over 250 exhibitors to each show and over 12 000 visitors; the key attraction remains the fashion shows which are now held 4 times per day by popular demand.  This has allowed The Wedding Expo to show its support of local designers by drawing a distinction between bespoke gowns and ready to wear imported gowns.

The Wedding Expo strives to bring value to both the exhibitor and the visitor by remaining creative with the attractions at the show and with the extensive marketing communications campaign run for each show. Evidence of this is the Bridal workshops were introduced into The Wedding Expo in April 2009 and the ‘Win a R200 000 Wedding’ in partnership with Independent Newspapers introduced in September 2009.

February 2010 saw the introduction of a third show, this time in Cape Town as host of the Wedding Pavilion within the Women’s Show which is held once a year in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The Wedding Expo has been the winner of the coveted EXSA Exhibition of the Year in the consumer category in 2004 and 2005.
